Using a loft style design theme can be possible not only in the areas that were once industrial warehouses or factory shops. Especially if an attic space is at your disposal. Bringing industrial aesthetics into a home located under the roof of an apartment building is not a gruesome task. But it is important not to forget about warmth and comfort, visual appeal, the warmth of home furnishings, comfortable and relaxed atmosphere when using loft elements for the living space design. We would like to show you such a complicated mix of the design of one studio apartment located in the mansard. We will begin our tour around the loft apartment from room to room, as usual, beginning with an entrance hall – a business card of the house.
According to the classics of the genre, the following design techniques should be actively used in the interior when you make an apartment in the loft style:
- concrete surfaces without finishing;
- brick walls as an accent or as a primary method of vertical surfaces decoration;
- paraded communications and engineering systems;
- use of bright colors (mostly white) to create accents in decoration or as a basic tone;
- open layout of the main premises.
Brickwork is a key element in the use of the loft style when you decorate a house. Against the background of brick walls, wall decor looks spectacular, and the furniture becomes more expressive.
Having passed through the hall, we find ourselves in a space that serves as a living room, kitchen and dining room. Most of the room has a strong sloping ceiling due to its location directly under the roof of the building, which affects the possibility of placing functional segments in space. It is logical that storage systems and upholstered seating area of the living room are arranged in the zone with the lowest ceiling height.
Thanks to the window, located in the roof, rest area of the living room has enough natural light not to turn the lighting on in the daytime, but also to read, sitting on a couch. The ceiling of the room was left without finishing by no coincidence, concrete surfaces are one of the features of space decoration in an industrial manner.
Another feature of the loft style is the effect used in the design of living spaces – a brick wall that became the perfect background to showcase the collectibles of the apartment’s owner.
A video area with a TV and storage systems is arranged opposite a roomy corner sofa in a living room. Simply using concrete surfaces as a finishing (or rather as a lack of it) is rather difficult to bear visually as space seems colder than it actually is. In order to bring a bit of natural warmth to the living room, it is perfect to use a wooden board (or its quality analog) as a floor covering.
Live plants are actively used in the space of the loft apartment. Lush green not just helps to create a fresh and attractive atmosphere of the space, but also looks spectacular against the background of concrete surfaces or brick walls.
Next, we go to the kitchen area segment where the furniture ensemble is arranged in a corner layout with the peninsula on one side and a bar counter in the other. The eclecticism of this functional area brings stylistic and color variety to the overall image of the entire space.
Using ceramic tiles for finishing the kitchen apron is a practical and attractive design solution. Snowy white bevel-edged metro tile is one of those win-win options integrating seamlessly into any decor.
The open layout makes it possible not only to maintain a sense of freedom and space in a room but also to create zones with different functional content in close proximity to each other. For example, the kitchen area peninsula, which has become a place for taking short meals thanks to the countertop extension, serves as bookshelves in the living area. Having put a tripod floor lamp next to the book storage system, you can easily organize a place for reading, which can be attributed to both the living room and the kitchen.
A narrow bar counter put against the back of the lower level of the kitchen cabinets is simple interior element consisting of two boards, but the functionality of this segment is really great. Here you can organize a place for breakfast and other short meals, here the owners can work given the availability of outlets and possibility of connecting laptops. The bar counter can be used for its intended purpose and serve as a stand for snacks if a party is organized in the apartment.
In the bathroom, which is located next to the kitchen space, finishing of one of the walls repeated that bright color used for highlighting the rear side of the kitchen. Finishing of the utilitarian space uses ceramic tiles of various modifications – ceramic granite imitates the concrete surface and “metro” tiles in its glossy white version provides an accent.
There is also a shower room, decorated with matt and glossy ceramic granite, imitating concrete finish.
The bedroom is a separate room with an unusual shape, sloping ceiling and skylight. The asymmetrical shape of the room and a single window pushes designers and homeowners to use the bright palette for sleeping space finishes. Using white color for the ceiling decoration, walls and bed textiles stands is almost the only winning option. Wooden floorboard, live plants and wicker baskets bring a little natural warmth to the environment of a room for sleep and relaxation, creates a diversity of color and texture in the image of the bedroom.
