Old tires are the excellent material for making furniture with your own hands. To variegate and complement the interior with the unusual, elegant detail, one can make from them a coffee table.
1. Choose and clean your material!
Take a clean tire. Tire tread pattern will not affect the quality of the table, it is important to have no mechanical damage on the tire—cuts or punctures, the strength of the structure depends on it.
Thoroughly lather up and brush the tire inside and out. If possible, it is better to do it on the street, so as not to smudge the room.
Wash off the soap and dirt
Repeat if necessary
Let the tire to dry properly
2. Measuring and cutting
Determine the diameter of the tire using a measuring tape. The round template for the table top should be cut out of plywood, particleboard or fiberboard.
Draw a circle of the required diameter on the plywood and then cut it out using a power jigsaw. When working, do not forget to put on safety goggles.
3. Measuring and making the lower part
The template for the table basement should be slightly less than the countertop. That is why the diameter of the circle for the lower part should be reduced by 5 centimeters. Cut and put aside the detail until required.
4. Fixing legs to the lower part of the table
On the smaller part, it is necessary to determine the location for the legs. For stability, three or four legs must be not far from the outer edge of the circle at the equal distance from each other.
Fix the legs with the wood glue to the lower part of the table. Before mounting with self-tapping screws, the glue should dry properly.
After the glue completely dries, fix the legs by angular fixture elements.
5. Time to glue
With the adhesive cement, fix the upper and the lower parts of the table on the tire. Start with the lower part, using enough adhesive cement.
6. Painting the lower wooden parts of the table
The bottom and the legs of the table must be covered with several layers of paint or lacquer. At this stage of manufacture, you may give rein to your imagination and make the table colorful, decorate it with drawings or patterns. Or you may use a rope as a decoration. How to do it? Let’s see it further.
The sides of the table should be wrapped with the rope. First, apply adhesive cement onto the tire cover, and then wind the rope over its entire surface.
You should wind the rope very tightly, so as there were no light gaps. The surface is covered with glue in advance.
8. The table is ready!
You may put it in any convenient place.
